Formula

Stitches per inch (SPI) = desired density. Total stitching = SPI × quilt area. Estimated time = total stitching ÷ stitches per minute.

Example calculation

A 60" × 80" quilt with 3 SPI has about 14,400 stitches and may take 2-4 hours of quilting time.

Results are planning estimates. Always round up when buying fabric, especially for directional prints, shrinkage, fussy cutting, or cutting mistakes.
